Want to Freshen up Your home before the Holidays?!
It may still seem far away but the Holidays will be here before you know it! There are many ways to freshen up your home before the Holiday season begins and your home is flooded with family celebrating together. One way to really change or update the interior of your home is fresh paint on the walls. You would be amazed at how just painting a room will change the entire look of it. Here are some tips that will make your painting project a lot easier and have less headaches.
1) THE PAINT- There are so many different brands of paint out there you could make yourself crazy on what you should buy. As the saying goes you get what you pay for. By buying a better quality paint you will save yourself time and money in the long run allowing you more time to decorate for the holidays and spend time with family. A better quality paint will also coat the walls better.
2) PAINT SUPPLIES- The same goes for the supplies as it does for the paint. By spending a few extra dollars on better quality supplies it will make your project run smoother. Having a better quality roller cover, brush, and other supplies like tape will give you A professional look.
3) PAINT SHEEN- A lot of people overlook this but it is as important as the paint itself. Depending on the condition of your walls will determine what sheen you choose. If you want to hide imperfections in the wall then a flat sheen is a good choice. If your painting trim then semi gloss is a good choice because it is easy to clean and wipe down. If you are painting a kitchen or bathroom then satin or a gloss finish is best for areas that can have moisture.
4) PREP- Before you put paint on the walls you are going to want to do a few things. One thing you want to do is to fill nail holes or any other holes in the wall with spackle, let it dry, and sand smooth. Another thing is to tape off all the trim and use drop cloths. This will give you a clean line on the wall and the drop cloths will soak up any drips or in the case you spill paint it won't get on the floor. You also want to tape off or remove the blinds as the paint splatter from the roller will get on them. The same goes for window sills. As the roller moves it sometimes spits out very small drops of paint off the roller from it spinning. This is normal but preparing for this will prevent a lot of clean up later.
These tips will help you change the look of a room before the holiday season and totally transform the room. It will make your project easier and cause you lesss stress while doing it and will be rewarding in the end when you see the difference!
